Not to be confused with the Miniboss, the Juvenile Eidolon Wyrm

The Adult Eidolon Wyrm is a Superboss battled in the 4th layer of the Abyss.

Spawn[]

The Adult Eidolon Wyrm does not spawn on its own and will spawn at any time if a player is affected with the Chaos State debuff (given by Rod of Discord, Normality Relocator, and similar items) while in the Abyss.

Behavior[]

This topic is a WIP

The Adult Eidolon Wyrm chases players, periodically executing additional attacks on a cycle. If the Wyrm is brought below a phase transition threshold and is in the middle of a cycle, it will continue the next cycle from the position it is currently in.

If it is brought out of Layer 4 of the Abyss, it will enrage, significantly increasing its movement speed.

Phase 1[]

  • Periodically turns invisible and intangible, dashes to an offscreen position aligned with the player, and charges at them for massive damage.
    • As it loses health, the delay between charges will become shorter.
  • The Eidolon Wyrm will use additional attacks in a cycle depending on how many times it charges:
    • After 3 charges, goes invulnerable and flies above the player before raining down six waves of lightning bolts.
    • After 4 charges, summons a Juvenile Eidolon Wyrm.
    • After 7 charges, goes invulnerable and flies below the player before launching 3 bursts of homing Ice Mist projectiles at the player. These will each fire multiple rings of ice spikes before disappearing.
    • After 8 charges, spawns 5 Eidolists as the the attack cycle resets, with the next charge being considered the third one.

Phase 2[]

  • Enters Phase 2 at 75% HP.
  • Attack cycle is altered:
    • After 1 charge, spins around the player's position at the time and fires several waves of shadowflame blasts and Ancient Lights towards the center of the circle. If the player is not being encircled, the projectiles move 50% faster.
    • After 2 charges, goes invulnerable and flies above the player before raining down six waves of lightning bolts.
    • After 3 charges, summons a Juvenile Eidolon Wyrm.
    • After 6 charges, goes invulnerable and flies below the player before launching 3 bursts of homing Ice Mist projectiles at the player.
    • After 7 charges, spawns 5 Eidolists as the attack cycle is reset.

Phase 3[]

  • Enters Phase 3 at 50% HP.
  • Attack cycle is altered:
    • After 1 charge, spins around the player's position at the time and fires several waves of shadowflame blasts and Ancient Lights towards the center of the circle.
    • After 2 charges, goes invulnerable and flies above the player before raining down six waves of lightning bolts.
    • After 3 charges, summons a Juvenile Eidolon Wyrm.
    • After 4 charges, summons 3 rings of Ancient Dooms that rotate around the player before each exploding into 4 Prophecy's End projectiles.
    • After 5 charges, goes invulnerable and flies below the player before launching 3 bursts of homing Ice Mist projectiles at the player.
    • After 6 charges, spawns 5 Eidolists as the attack cycle is reset.
  • Below 30% HP, every 2nd and 5th charge now summons a surge of lightning bolts in the same direction as its charge.
  • Below 20% HP, loses the ability to summon Eidolists and Juvenile Eidolon Wyrms, dashing a second time in place of summoning them.
  • Below 5% HP, it will start exclusively using the Ancient Doom and Ancient Light attacks simultaneously as a last ditch attempt to kill the player.

Notes[]

  • The body segments of the Adult Eidolon Wyrm is intangible, dealing no damage to the player and having complete immunity to attacks. Only the head is capable of dealing or receiving damage.
  • Being affected by Chaos State causes any living Eidolon Wyrms, both Juvenile and Adult, to instantly discover the player and begin attacking.
    • If trying to escape from an enraged Adult Eidolon Wyrm by using a Magic Mirror or Recall Potion (or by dying in a specific manner) while still in the Abyss, there is a chance an Adult Eidolon Wyrm will spawn upon being teleported back if the player still has the Chaos State debuff applied, thereby making the safe teleportation destination not safe anymore. However, it is also possible for the Wyrm to be non-hostile after the teleport. The Wyrm may be despawned again by leading it far enough away from the teleport destination then teleporting back again. However, if Chaos State is applied again, regardless of not being in the Abyss, any idling Adults nearby will attack the player.
  • The Adult Eidolon Wyrm's awakening depends only on whether or not the player has the Chaos State debuff while in the Abyss, and will therefore spawn if the player enters the biome with the debuff already applied, even if the Rod of Discord or other items which inflict chaos state are not actually being used within the Abyss.
  • Whilst the Juvenile Eidolon Wyrm can be detected with the Lifeform Analyzer, the Adult Eidolon Wyrm cannot.
  • The Adult Eidolon Wyrm does not require Polterghast to be defeated in order to drop weapons. This means that, if the player has the strategy and the patience to do so, they can acquire those immensely powerful weapons only after obtaining a Rod of Discord at the beginning of Hardmode.
  • Adult Eidolon Wyrm kills will not count toward the banner count for the Juvenile.
  • All enemies spawned by the Adult Eidolon Wyrm will not drop anything.

Trivia[]

  • Adult Eidolon Wyrm's theme is Threats of the Ocean Floor, which was made by the artist DM DOKURO.
  • An eidolon in Greek Literature is a spirit-like image of a person, either living or dead.
  • Their ice and lightning attacks are similar to those performed by the Lunatic Cultist. The juvenile's ability to drop the Lunar Cultist Robe and Hood, as well as "Eidolon" being a term used to describe something idolized (potentially in the fashion of a cult), further establishes a connection between these enemies.
    • They may also be related to the Eidolist, as they have similar names and drops, and they both spawn in the Abyss.
  • Its design is based on a creature from the aquatic exploration game Subnautica, known as the Ghost Leviathan. The original sprite was also a copy of the Ghost Leviathan's design.
    • The different life-stages makes this more evident because there are both juvenile and adult Ghost Leviathans.
    • The Adult versions of both creatures share the similar purpose of preventing the player from doing something (Adult Ghost Leviathans protect the crater edge, while the Adult Eidolon Wyrm prevents the player from using the Rod of Discord or other short ranged teleportation items).
  • Adult Eidolon Wyrm is a "Superboss" in this mod. In some RPG games, superbosses are extremely powerful enemies that are very challenging even if the player has endgame equipment.
  • The Adult Eidolon Wyrm could be considered the Calamity Mod version of the Dungeon Guardian since both are extremely strong enemies that are intended to prevent the player from performing a certain action.
  • Prior to the 1.3.4.001 update, the Adult Eidolon Wyrm had the highest health of any NPC in the mod, with a whopping 30,000,000 health.
  • Prior to the 1.5.0.001 update, the Adult Eidolon Wyrm used to be considered a Mini boss.
  • If the Boss Checklist Mod is installed, its unique despawn message will be "...".
