Jungle Dragon, Yharon is typically the third to last Calamity boss that you will face in your playthrough, fought after The Devourer of Gods. Yharon is summoned by using a Jungle Dragon Egg in the Jungle biome at any time.
This guide will mention items exclusive to Expert and Revengeance Mode with no special formatting and will follow the intended progression.
Terrain Preparation[]
Although Yharon must be summoned in the Jungle, leaving the biome will not enrage him. However, Yharon summons two border tornadoes 218.75 / 187.5 / 125 blocks to the left and right of you from the block you use the Jungle Dragon Egg. Going outside of these tornadoes will render Yharon nearly invincible.
Build walls before where the border tornadoes are placed. These will function as a barrier to prevent the player from accidentally touching the border tornadoes, which will instantly kill them. Note that the border tornadoes increase in width the higher you go, so you might want to summon Yharon in space to prevent this from being an issue. Yharon will enrage if you go too high or low from where the Jungle Dragon Egg was used, to avoid this build a roof 660 blocks up from the starting position in Normal and Expert while have this roof be 555 blocks up in Revengeance and Death Mode. The Depth Meter will help you know when to build the roof (note that 2 units in the Depth Meter is equal to 1 block).
Generally, rails should be used instead of platforms, as the player will want to stay in the air at all times. Platforms also have the added disadvantage of lowering your fall speed, as you must land on them before falling through. These rails should be spaced around 30-35 blocks apart. Great vertical and horizontal mobility is a must for this fight, considering the high mobility of the boss itself. Campfires, Heart Lanterns, and Drunk Princess Candles can be placed throughout the arena for their stat boosts, however be careful not to exceed the buff cap of 22 buffs.
Gearing Up[]
Armor[]
- God Slayer armor is the preferred choice for Ranged, Melee, and Rogue.
- Silva armor is the highest-tier choice for Mages and Summoners.
- Bloodflare armor and Omega Blue armor are additional lower-tier options that can be used.
- Fearmonger armor is a good option for multiclass, focusing on minion damage.
Accessories[]
Movement[]
- As you want to be in the air for nearly all of the fight, using Silva Wings is generally the best option due to their superior flight time and greater air speed compared to the Elysian Tracers.
- The Community is a very good option providing both offensive and defensive bonuses as well as 15 percent additional flight time.
- The Affliction provides slightly larger boosts to max life, damage, defense, and damage reduction than The Community and is easier to obtain, but does not provide boosts to movement speed, critical strike chance, or wing flight time.
- The Asgardian Aegis provides some defensive boosts as well as a powerful dash.
- The Statis' Void Sash can also be used; providing a jump boost, dash, and a guaranteed dodge every 90 seconds.
Defensive[]
- The Core of the Blood God should be prioritized, as it halves Yharon's high contact damage every 20 seconds, in addition to providing other boosts to survivability and a slight boost to damage.
- The Rampart of Deities is a strong defensive option, providing additional immunity frames and damage reduction while also reducing the potion cooldown by 15 seconds.
- The Sponge is useful for providing defensive boosts as well as a jump boost.
Offensive[]
- Depending on your class, you should make these post-Devourer of Gods accessories:
- Elemental Gauntlet for Melee players.
- Elemental Quiver for Ranged players.
- Ethereal Talisman for Mage players.
- Nucleogenesis for Summoner players.
- Nanotech for Rogue players.
- Melee players using Yoyos should equip a Yoyo Bag to increase the range and effectiveness of the yoyo.
- Summoner players should use the Profaned Soul Artifact as it summons Profaned Guardian minions that provide defensive and offensive bonuses as well as an excellent additional source of damage.
- If playing a hybrid class with summoner, the Eldritch Soul Artifact is a good option, especially for Mage or Rogue, providing boosts for all classes.
- Should you know Yharon's attack patterns very well, the Dimensional Soul Artifact is an excellent choice for boosting your DPS with high damage bonuses at the cost of increasing the damage you take by 15%.
- When paired with a dash, the Alicorn mount can reach extreme horizontal speed, at the cost of some vertical speed.
- The Reaper Tooth Necklace can improve DPS if you are using weapons that have a low use time or ignore immunity frames.
Weapons[]
Weapons dropped from The Devourer of Gods or crafted with Cosmilite Bars should suffice in most situations.
Melee[]
- The Stream Gouge is a fantastic option that deals tremendous damage to Yharon.
- The Enforcer's high raw damage helps bypass Yharon's high defenses.
- Note that this sword does not fire projectiles and thus requires the player to be very close to the boss in order to deal damage.
- Galaxia is an excellent option with its homing as well as providing the player with buffs throughout the fight.
- The Excelsus is another sword that deals good damage and provides a bit of extra DPS if Yharon is hit with the blade.
- Devil's Devastation is a powerful option when landing the sky shots.
- Galaxy Smasher is an extremely strong option at the cost of very low range.
Ranged[]
- The Phangasm is an excellent option that deals high damage with Vanquisher Arrows.
- The Alluvion is another bow that deals high damage with its typhoon arrows and monsoons. It requires Wooden Arrows in order to be used effectively.
- The Anti-materiel Rifle is a powerful option for its raw damage.
- The Daawnlight Spirit Origin should be paired with this weapon to achieve its maximum potential.
- The SDFMG is a good gun and is very easy to land hits with when using Holy Fire Bullets.
- The Starmada is an additional option that has more expensive ammunition, but does high amounts of damage when fully charged up.
- The Pack is a strong hard-hitting option at the cost of speed but with valuable homing.
- The Skullmasher has incredibly good DPS despite its slow fire rate.
- The Norfleet is similar to the Skullmasher, having very high DPS, but a slow firerate. Additionally, the massive range of the explosions can wipe out Yharon’s minions with ease.
Mage[]
- Light God's Brilliance is your best option that deals high damage with the orbs as well as the homing shards.
- Magnetic Meltdown is another option that does decent damage and homes. However, it has a limited range. Use it when Yharon is spinning or stationary for the most damage.
- Recitation of the Beast is another amazing weapon that homes in and deals high damage.
- The Tesla Cannon does great DPS, although it becomes weaker the longer it is used. This can be mitigated by bringing two.
- Despite being from a much lower tier, the Purge Guzzler is still a good option for this fight with its high damage.
Summoner[]
- The Corvid Harbinger Staff and the Endo Hydra Staff are the best options, as they are fast and they deal high DPS.
- The Staff of the Mechworm is a good option for summoners as it deals high damage, particularly when Yharon sits still. However, it's not as effective during subphase 4 due to not being able to consistently catch up with Yharon's teleports.
- The phantoms from the Ethereal Subjugator are the best option for filling up the remaining slots if you are using the Mechworm.
- The Cadaverous Carrion can be used to deal extra DPS.
Rogue[]
- The Executioner's Blade is an excellent option for Rogue users with good range, homing, and DPS.
- A full stack of God's Paranoia is very effective against Yharon. Waiting for a stealth strike gives time for the balls to replenish, but right clicking can recall them faster.
- Penumbra and Hypothermia are also great options but require aim.
- The Eradicator can also work well, particularly when Yharon is spinning or stationary.
- Eclipse's Fall is really effective against Yharon, but you do need to aim, like the Penumbra or Hypothermia.
Miscellaneous[]
- The Well Fed buff provides a useful all around stat boost.
- The Rod of Discord and the Normality Relocator can both prove useful during the fight. The Rod of Discord will help you avoid the Flarenadoes and keep your distance without altering your fall speed afterwards, while the Normality Relocator can be used to quickly escape Yharon's fast dashes.
- The Ultra Liquidator is an option for applying Ichor to Yharon for 20 seconds for classes such as Ranger, reducing his high damage reduction and defense.
- The Ultra Liquidator activates the Summoner nerf. As such, the Golden Gun should be used to apply Ichor instead.
- The Slimy Saddle and Suspicious Looking Jelly Bean are powerful mounts that can be used evasively to fall quickly away from Yharon and out of harm's way.
- The Alicorn is another mount that provides excellent horizontal movement at the cost of vertical mobility.
The Fight[]
Phase 1[]
Yharon will spawn offscreen, meaning you should be prepared to dodge him as he approaches you. At the start of the fight, a tornado will appear on each side 120 blocks away from where you use the Jungle Dragon Egg. It is imperative to avoid these at all costs as they will instantly kill you.
In subphase 1, Yharon's pattern will always be the same: he'll do two shorter charges, spawn some Detonating Flames, do a short charge, then do a much faster charge preceded by a pause, before spawning Flarenadoes. It is important to keep ahead of Yharon to avoid his high contact damage. The faster dashes can be avoided by dodging perpendicularly. Yharon also tries to align himself above the player while in the fast charge telegraph, so dodging them is easier when falling.
At a certain health interval dependent on your difficulty, Yharon will become briefly invincible and move on to subphase 2. The pattern is largely the same, although Yharon will have a few more fast charges and now has a "bullet-hell" attack where he will shoot a barrage of fireballs in all directions. Yharon will always teleport above the player when he does the bullet hell attack, and he does charges out of the attack, therefore flying upwards before he begins the bullet hell can be useful to allow yourself to gain distance from Yharon.
Again, once he reaches a certain health interval dependent on difficulty, Yharon will become invincible and transition to subphase 3. This subphase typically lasts the longest and contains even more of Yharon's longer dashes. Between dashes, Yharon can spawn Detonating Flames and Flarenadoes. At the end of the pattern, Yharon will once again do a bullet-hell style attack, however the fireballs will be faster than in subphase 2. Again, Yharon teleports above the player and follows the attack with charges, so flying up before the bullet hell starts allows for you to put distance between yourself and Yharon.
As Yharon summons Infernadoes, it is useful to try and lead them near the sides of the arena where they are much easier to manage.
Phase 2[]
Upon reaching 55% health, Phase 2 will begin.
For a short while Yharon will be invincible. It is important to keep firing as Yharon will summon Detonating Flames to his aid.
Compared to Phase 1, Phase 2 is a drastically different style of fight. Although Yharon continues to charge at you, this phase has many more different projectiles. It is important to maintain good distance throughout the entire fight. The general approach to this phase is a circle or oval around the arena. When falling, using Suspicious Looking Jelly Bean or Normality Relocator is highly recommended to avoid Yharon as he gains on your position. When moving left and right, constantly dash to keep ahead of Yharon. However, be wary to not accidentally run into leftover projectiles while fleeing.
Yharon will continue to do bullet hell attacks in this phase, and in fact, does them in all subphases. However, he won't charge immediately after bullet hells in phase 2's patterns, making distance not as important of a factor when dodging bullet hell attacks. In fact, staying close during bullet hell attacks in phase 2 can allow the player to get in free damage while Yharon hovers near the player preparing for the next attack in his pattern.
Note that Yharon's charge patterns change between subphases. In subphase 4, he only does slow charges. In subphase 5, he does a fast charge followed by a slow charge, which can potentially catch the player off guard unless properly accounted for. In subphase 6, he'll do fast charges, with nearby random teleports in between. It is important to keep an eye on where and when Yharon teleports before the second fast charge and to dodge accordingly.
Again, when Yharon summons Infernadoes, it is useful to lead them near the sides of the arena, where they are easier to manage.
In Expert Mode[]
Yharon gains an attack at the beginning of subphase 4, 5, and 6, in which he spawns 3 massive rings of flare dust that home in on the player after 3 seconds. He switches between attacks at a faster rate, transitions to some subphases earlier, and has faster charges.
In Revengeance Mode[]
Yharon gains a new subphase below 11% health, where he repeatedly uses teleporting fast charges and flare dust bullet hells. In addition, all attacks from him deal 10% more damage. The bordernados spawn closer to the player, and his enrage height is reduced. He transitions into certain subphases earlier and charges and teleports closer to the player.
In Death Mode[]
In addition to decreased delay between attacks, Yharon completely skips subphases 1 and 4. He also transitions into certain subphases earlier. The amount of fireballs in phase 2 attacks are increased, and he summons more Infernonados in place of Flarenados.
In Malice Mode[]
The bordernados spawn even closer to the player. Yharon also attacks and charges much faster, and the density and speed of the bullet hells increases as Yharon loses health. In addition, all of his projectiles are affected by Malice Mode's general 25% projectile speed increase.
General Tips[]
- Disabling backgrounds can help players who have trouble focusing on all the different things that are going on during the fight.
- In Revengeance and Death Mode, using Adrenaline or Rage can be used to easily burst down Yharon's health when it is low to swiftly end the fight as Yharon gets much more hectic in his last percentages of health.
- Be aware that in Death Mode, Yharon has decreased attack delay, which can pose a problem to less experienced players.
- Yharon roars before he dashes, so listening out for this audio cue is an easy way to time a dash out of the way. The timing is different in the Revengeance+ phase, however learning these timings can make the fight a lot easier.
